When I was younger I would hate characters just because they were evil but Azula during her breakdown is what changed that for me. She's so complex and had been hiding her sensitive side and emotions for so long that it all just came out in her breakdown. She had been betrayed by her friends, her father looked down on her suddenly, and she believed that her mother never loved her. It tore me up to see the tears in her eyes. It was like the little girl inside of her was just trying to break out and cry out for someone to help her. I was so happy in The Search Comics where Aang says he believes there is good in her and when Zuko actually tells Azula that she's his sister, which was basically telling her he loved her. Finally, someone has shown her love.

When I was younger I used to like characters just because they were evil...or wore blue. If they wore blue they were my favorite. But that breakdown though; it's like 'how to turn a so called heartless character into a sympathetic deep one in less then an hour'. I just felt bad for her, Ty-Lee and Mai's betrayal and her mother's lack of affection hurt her more than she let on. Her tears were just so heartbreaking, I mean you have this absolutely strong and powerful character in such a vulnerable and sensitive position. I agree, I loved that Aang was still able to see that she has the potential to change, and I think she will. And Zuko actually saying he cared about her was sweet.

It honestly broke my heart to see her in that state. I understand why Ty Lee and Mai left her, but she had lost the only two people who she felt were on her side, and that's when I think she started to lose it. And it pretty much led to her breakdown.

I totally think the loss of Mai and Ty-Lee triggered her breakdown.

And her father, who she spent her whole life trying to earn love from, taking her plan and not even taking her along is what made it worse. The three people she trusted the most betrayed her! She realized that she was truly alone and having no one in your life is a terrible feeling. My poor Azula!

I feel bad for her she really didn't have anyone I don't blame Ty lee and Mai for leaving her but yes it did have an effect on her. Also her mother really could have tried harder bonding with both children not just Zuko.

@KataraLover Exactly, he just left her behind. And he didn't care. She was betrayed by three people she cared about.

@Alchemistlover Exactly, at least Zuko had Iroh and in the end he had the gang. Azula however had really no one at all. That whole family is just dysfunctional.

Her breakdown, i find all characters breakdowns sad :( especially hers , the whole things with her cutting her hair and breaking the mirror , but i still don't kinda like her because she deserved to be betrayed since she was being an awful friend and she couldn't see what was wrong in her haughty behaviour and Ozai's intentions , if she actually had an idea that Ozai was doing wrong and teaching her to be evil, at least when a little bit older , she would have stopped but she didn't, plus i think she could resist - there are plenty other complex characters who suffered from betrayal and lack of affection but they somehow kept it together and these are the characters i look up to the most , she couldn't , and also didn't try to change much( even in the extra comics she continues to be kinda sadistic at times) but yeah she is Tragic :(

I do too, breakdowns in general are just sad. Totally agree though, Azula had one of the saddest breakdowns. She lost it all. It was a kind of poetic justice. I really do wish that they would have given her a shot at redemption. Everything about Avatar was amazing, but if there's one thing I wish they would have handled better, it was comic Azula. There was very little resolution. I mean, Aang mentioned that she left the note behind on purpose and could change. I like to think that she went on some life changing adventure and kind of turned around.

That's what I was hoping. Or maybe another set of comics (after all they're still releasing The Rift).
