Yes, well had it read to me/I read it also, a long time ago. It is TOTALLY different version. There is an animated movie that is not Disney that is more accurate to Hans Christian Anderson's. Its a 1992 Japanese film. But I have a copy of it in English. I bought it for cheap in a retail store near where I live.

that version litterally made me want to cry! its just sad that the prince doesnt fall in love with her!
There are other versions of The Little Mermaid but this one (above) and Disney's version are the ones I like best. There is one that I have on dvd that is like a combo of both.
I remember watching that, it made me cry too. I felt so bad for the heroine and the story was so bittersweet. It was beautiful and tragic even though I still prefer the Disney version because I love Eric/Ariel developing mutual feelings and Eric is definitely a much better prince.
It is isn't it? It made me cry every time I watched the japanese version. Since the girl did suicide at the end and leave her pearl to the prince. But are you really asing anything?

This picture you posted is of the one Japanese one I was talking about. The one I posted above is of the combo one I commented about.
