Yeah, both are really vain.

Both's vanity also makes them evil villains. Evil Queen wants to be the prettiest so she wants to get rid of Snow White while Mother Gothel wants to be young forever that she locks Rapunzel for herself.

The difference between Evil Queen and Mother Gothel is that Mother Gothel is all for herself. She doesn't think Rapunzel prettier than her or perhaps she even thinks Rapunzel is not pretty at all.
