BY FAR! Better animation, more realistic characters, better characters, prettier characters, better humor, more development, much better songs, they really set the theme in this movie and it's awesome. Overall, it's just far better than sleeping beauty. I'm trying to compare the two girls that don't realize they are princesses with each other. I didn't want to keep comparing Rapunzel but rather do something new.

Anastasia is more fun and family-friendly, but overall SB is definitely better over all. More interesting and likable characters (including a scarier villain), better score (sorry to repeat everyone else but it's Tchaikovsky!), better animation, and i just plain prefer Aurora and Philip as a couple as well as characters, although Dmitri's OK, albeit annoying how he treats Anastasia. Although growing up I think I watched Anastasia more because I didn't appreciate SB as much as I do now, plus it's less of a kid's movie.

I like Sleeping Beauty, the animation is amazing,I like the songs, the fairies are funny and the villain is one the best animated villain ever.
But exept for the villains and the animation,Anastasia is much better. Like shanyuisboss said, the characters are (a lot) better, the songs are better and the humor is better

I haven't seen Anastasia, so I'm kinda judging unfairly here, but meh.

It's hard to compare these two. Sleeping Beauty is a totally unique method in storytelling, while Anastasia follows the typical three-act formula (not that there's anything wrong with the three-act formula.) Sleeping Beauty's protagonists are really the fairies, and so the story is not focused on the characters in the middle of the conflict. Anastasia very much follows the standard of following the character the conflict surrounds. Sleeping Beauty follows a very broad story of Good and Evil, where Anastasia is fighting against fate (with some evil thrown in there for good measure.) Anastasia is more concerned with characters as characters, while Sleeping Beauty is about characters as places in the conflict. The two are simply very different films and it is almost impossible to compare them.

I understand that this is supposed to be child friendly and a bit more fairytale like but for some reason I just can't get over how historically inaccurate Anastasia is. I don't know this may just be me but I can't help but feel as if Anastasia is an insult to Russian history. It's like when I watch it I can't help but point out the inaccuracies. I may just be stupid huh?

BY FAR! I like Sleeping Beauty but it's so bland, boring, and undeveloped. Anastasia is one of my all time favorite movies, top 3 easily.

They are not really comparable...but when I compare Anastasia to other movies of it's kind, it's fairly average. Better than Pocahonatas, but by far worse than TLM or Mulan, It's not even the best movie DB every made, it ranges somewhere in the middle, behind his first four movies. Sleeping Beauty on the other hand is something special. There is no other movie like this. Anastasia has nice animation, Sleeping Beauty's is outstanding. Anastasia has an okay villain with a really good song, Anastasia has one of the best (Imho the best) animated villain of all time. Anastasia has really great music, but it's not Tchaikovsky. You could make a case for the lead, but I still think that if you look at the screentime the two have, Auraro is way more interesting than the surprisingly bland Anastasia.

Or course aesthetically Sleeping Beauty is superior. It has a better score, animation, etc. As far as story and character, I think they'd be on par if Sleeping Beauty had the same amount of development given to the story and characters. But Anastasia of course has more care given to the story, so it's slightly better. It's really 49/51 for me on this one, because I honestly find Phillip, Aurora and Maleficent far more interesting and compelling than Anastasia, Dmitri and Rasputin. Plus at least SB didn't smear Russia's history in the same way as Pocahontas. Honestly Pocahontas gets a lot of flak for changing history, but I never hear people say the same about Anastasia.

Don't care for Anastasia much more than the other Bluth movies, possibly less than a couple. SB is in the lower top ten of my favorite Disney movies.

I love the story of a lost princess that has amnesia raised in a beat down orphanage, travels to other countries to find her family (even though two guys are just using her to get reward money, but one of them ends up the love interest), and she ultimately remembers who she is, and ends up killing the bad guy. I don't care for history and I never heard of Anastasia before I saw Don Bluth's movie so it not being historically accurate doesn't bother me at all. I just love the story of a lost princess and that's why I like what Disney did with Rapunzel in Tangled. Anastasia was what inspired me to write my own lost princess story when I was little. So because Anastasia was the movie that caused my inspiration, my opinion is that Anastasia is better.
