She learned from her mistakes but her decisions were selfish. She endangered the whole ocean for a guy she didn't even know.

I love Ariel but this is one of the reasons why she is lower on my list.

She is very self centered and only thought about what she wanted and her own needs. Instead of only thinking about herself she should have thought about how her actions would affect others around her.

Well no, she followed her dreams. Why would be this selfish? Children are grow up and leave their parents eventually.
She fell in love with Eric and then married to him she is living her own life. And she do everything for her and Eric's happiness. And this little adventure fixed the relationship between her and her father too.

She really doesn't care about what anyone thinks when she makes her decisions in my opinion. She's not cruel or anything but she's careless and inconsiderate.

alexon31 picked A little :
She was a teenage girl in love and the way her father reacted to the situation didn't help at all. After Triton destroyed all of her treasures, which meant a lot to her, she acted on the spur of the moment and didn't really thought things through. I guess it was a little selfish, but she was very misunderstood and she never imagined something like that could happen. She just failed to measure the consequences of her acts.

She did only think for herself, but she didn't really have any reason to think it would harm anyone else (she had no way of knowing Ursula was planning on using her to get to Triton.) She weighed the options and thought she would be able to succeed- and guess what, she almost did.
I also agree with tiffany88's point that we do leave our parents at some point. Are we going to say that every woman who moved with her husband back when there was little transportation and so no way to see your family was making a selfish decision too? Just a thought.

tiffany- how ISN'T following your own dreams selfish? you said it yourself, "YOUR dreams". it's doing what you want and not what's best for you or anyone else.

Rhythmic- but Eric wasn't her husband. He was a guy she fell in lust with. Women back then took their marriages and roles as wives more seriously than most today.

I agree she didn't really think of what Ursula might do, but being a sea witch, I wonder if Ariel really thought Ursula was just doing this out of niceness (taking her as a slave basically, excluded). This is miles different, a teenage girl wanting to go marry a forbidden human and live in his world because she thinks it's cool vs. a married couple doing what they need to do. In marriage you put others before yourself. Ariel put Ariel before others.
