Disney Princess Do you think Disney should have more personalities other than the typical "independent free spirit who doesn't 'need' a man"?

Absolutely. I am sick of there being only free-spirited, adventurous girls who want to explore life. The only ones that so not have that are the Classic princesses. Not saying that the princesses have the same personality, but there are so much more personalities that can be used for their female and male protagonists. There are a bit more diversity in the males, but for the females, there are the classic types (Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora), free-spirited adventurous ones (Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Rapunzel, Merida) than there is Mulan who is in a group by herself, and Tiana who is also in a group of her own. And they wonder why people say that the company's protagonists all have the same personality. MAKE SOME ACTUAL DIVERSITY

I like the characters the way they are. There are archetypes among them, but I don't think all of the princesses- or even all of the recent females- are like that. Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, and ESMERALDA all fit into that. I wouldn't really say Ariel would fit into that because of how much she loves Eric. I can't really decide about Meg, she kind of could, but I also think her role as the Disney-dom morally ambiguous character kind of separates her from that, too. Meg is just kind of different. Again, I guess you could say that applies to Mulan, but I personally don't think anything other than the "doesn't 'need' a man" part fits Mulan. Tiana's kind of a cross between Meg and Mulan. I haven't seen most of the 2000s films, but I don't think kida really fits into that either. Again, she's like the ones I've mentioned before her. Rapunzel, again, is just kind of her own thing. She's obedient to Gothel (until she realizes the severity of her actions). She also doesn't feel the need to be different from the people in the kingdom, just to be independent of her abusive situation. Now Merida is the poster child for that.

I think it'd be a good idea to show that being soft spoken, or accepting of how things are is okay. I like the whole free spirited and independent personality, but I also like female characters that accept help when they need it. Meg from Hercules is a good example. She claims a few different times that she can handle herself, but can she isn't as independent as she says-That is, she needs Hercules to save her. (By the way, I love Meg. Don't get the wrong idea.)

We have the "weak" personality (classic princesses), and the "strong" personality (renaissance and on), with in-betweens, but not much diversity.

I think that the every princess has very much her own character, and each of them is very much a product of her time. As long as Disney moves forward and not backwards. The "I want more" princesses should be a thing of the past by now, after creating layered characters like Mulan, Tiana and Rapunzel, who are NOT defined by wanting "more" but instead go on a journey to redefine themselves, I expect them to provide further female leads with true character development.
I think people should just stop thinking about the fairy tales movies in terms of the line-up, and Disney shouldn't do it either.

Doesn't make a difference to me really. I do love that personality. I'm more attracted to the heroines like Ariel, Belle, Pocahontas, etc. with that personality because I find them easy to relate to and I see a bit of myself in those characters. I wouldn't mind seeing some diversity because I don't want every princess to be exactly the same, but I'm always going to prefer the princesses with that personality.
