We are definitely in a Renaissance or a Revival

We are still in the dull Post-Renaissance

I think Princess and the Frog started the Renaissance though. Did it do phenomenally at the box office? No, but it started the momentum of quality that got the ball rolling for later films.
Disney also learned from their marketing mistakes with PatF that made Tangled the success it became. They marketed PatF as a timeless classic, so people only noticed the flaws; a Disney Princess film, so boys and men ran for the hills, and a sincere fairy tale that post-Shrek audiences still weren't ready for. And it's hand-drawn. =/
As a result, Disney *completely* retooled the marketing for Rapunzel that got butts in seats: they gave it a gender-neutral title and made the ads focus on Flynn so as not to scare the boys away, and marketed it as a snarky, action-packed DreamWorks-esque adventure film so post-Shrek audiences would be interested. And it's CGI. >_<
I'm willing to bet money that if PatF had not come out first, Disney would not have marketed "Tangled" as they did, it would not have been the run-away success it became, and we would not have a CGI Renaissance as it is.
@TheFabulousFan Merida doesn't count, Brave is Pixar, not Disney
Wreck it Ralph and Frozen are continuing the success.
