I don't really think so. I mean movies like The Swan Princess, Pocahontas, Hocus Pocus, The Notebook, and any comedy (including classics like Home Alone) are criticized by critics for very pretentious reasons but they all have HUGE fanbases. Even A Christmas Carol when it was first written wasn't very well received by critics. You heard right, the timeless Christmas classic that is considered by many to be the best Christmas story ever told wasn't very well-liked by the critics when it first came out. Critics usually are pretty stuck up and their opinions don't exactly reflect a movie or the general public's opinion very well.
One of my favorite animated movies is The Road to El Dorado, which holds something like a 40% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That movie was great though, so the critics can suck it.
Most of the critics weren't fond of Mulan...back when it was released. But look at the fanbase it now has. Critics criticize everything, but not very many are truly good at interpreting what consitutes "a good movie."
I know critics said that the Fantastic Four films from 2005/07 were rubbish but I actually really like them. I don't see much point listening to the critics since it's basically just random people's opinions.
