I like the idea of a sister relationship but it's not the first time Disney has done it. They did it with Lilo and Stitch and Secret of The Wings. But they've never had a brother-sister relationship as a main focus in a Disney movie. I think they should have done this because the original story of The Snow Queen was about a girl who goes on a journey to help her brother or guy friend (it changes with every adaptation but they're NEVER a romantic couple) who has become cursed to see evilness because of the devil with a mirror or something like that. In some versions the Snow Queen (who takes the brother into her home) is good but in some she's the villain who is keeping the brother until he's cold as ice or something. I could imagine a Snow Queen villainess using a male Elsa to embrace his powers and help her conquer the kingdom. Maybe the Snow Queen could be their evil Aunt, which would explain why Elsa (or Eliot or something) has ice powers. I think this would be very interesting.
Personally I don't think a gender swap would have effected my opinion of the movie that drastically. But, KataraLover, I love your idea of them keeping it more to the original Snow Queen story. I would have definitely been down for that.
But i think Frozen works well with it being a sister movie.
