eh to each their own. From their standpoint, I understand how it's important to be independent. So I do agree you need to do you and all. It's just annoying how some say it with such an attitude, that can be insulting.
Sure. Let's say you're a person who values not needing no man -- why can't you look up to a character whom you feel similarly don't need no man?
Basically there's nothing wrong with looking for your reflection in a character, no matter how weird I think it is to admire Aurora for sleeping. If that's what you value, have at it. :)
it's sexist. nobody would praise a man outright saying he doesn't want a gf/wife and is too good for any woman. yet we heap praise on women who think they're too good for relationships with men- or just simply prefer careers to relationships.
Not that Disney will do this in a million years but I would laugh if they took some of that mean-spirited snark from Frozen at true love and directed it towards this attitude. say a future heroine snubs men and thinks nothing could possibly be as satisfying as being a rich, famous (ruler or some other top job). some character who is portrayed as wiser condescendingly tells her, "You can't put money and fame over everything else!" "Moana/Angelina, you're so sheltered- what do you know about fame/riches/glory/politics?" I bet people who love Elsa's line wouldn't like the shoe being on the other foot.
Like who you like for whatever reasons you like them. (Well, maybe not whatever reasons.) I agree with UnholyNoise and audreybrooke.
I don't get why people would get their knickers in a twist over it. Whenever I have problems with "strong, independent woman" characters, whether they desire to have a relationship is never on the radar. I think it's shallow and stupid for this to be a person's only reason for liking a character, and more demeaning to the character herself than anything. But people probably find it strange that I love Snow White for brandishing a spoon.
