They look more mature and they have diversity between them. You could probably swap hairs on the cgi's and you couldn't tell the difference.

All the CGI faces (besides Merida, but that's only because she was made by Pixar and not Disney) look the same, but the 2D princesses are all really diverse in their facial appearance.
