As in aspects of the movie are so overly simple and poorly thought out that a regular fan who doesn't really have any understanding of storytelling, let alone filmmaking, could have come up with the plot. I hate to say it but Pocahontas feels kinda fan fiction-y sometimes. And of course there are two other DP movies, which I'm sure some of you can guess. :)

The first part of Brave, actually. But I think most of the sequels are more fanficcy than the original films themselves.

To be honest I would say Snow White. I can just image the thought process, hmm, skin as pale as snow? I'll call her Snow White! Super clever!!! And I can't really be bothered to come up with a proper resolution for the story so I guess I'll go with True Love's Kiss[TM]. Oh yeah, and I'll make her completely perfect! Like she would fart rainbows, but she's so perfect that she doesn't even fart!

Though I could write this type of parody for any of the movies really. They all have rather simplistic themes. Though I also wouldn't say that just because it's a fanfic, or is written by a fan, doesn't mean it's automatically bad. Some of the best pieces of works created I believe to be fanfics. There is some serious gold out there.

^Oh I know there's stereotypical "fan fiction" and then there's actually good fan fiction.

I feel like writing a bit, just in case anyone needs some explaining.

An average fan, who doesn't know of concepts like suspense, drama and challenges wouldn't think to add the spinning wheel in Sleeping Beauty, they'd just make Aurora drop dead on her birthday. Same goes for the enchanted rose in BATB and giving up her voice in TLM.

An average fan, who doesn't understand motivations or normal human behavior wouldn't come with the sick father/injured father/dead father aspects in BATB/Mulan/PATF, they'd just make Belle/Mulan/Tiana go to the Beast's castle/go to war/work tirelessly for her restaurant just because she wants to.

And an average fan wouldn't come up with the innovative magic flower idea in Tangled. What isn't innovative is just taking cliches like "arranged royal marriage" and just changing one aspect of it to seem "different" instead of just coming up with a new narrative altogether (Brave) or constantly trying to subvert tropes to seem "different" like "Let's make the handsome prince evil" and not set it up, so the payoff can be more effective (Frozen).

Elsa also is a little bit of a Sue in concept. "Oh she's magical and has snow powers and weird hair coloring and is a queen..."

But tbh, if we see all the DP films under these lenses, the other DP also come out as big Sues.

I feel like there’s an implication here that fanfictions can’t be complex and compelling and I disagree with that. I have seen fics from writers so talented and creative that it leaves me wondering how they ARENT professionals.
