I'm honestly not sure how I would feel if she was casted but I wouldn't be surprised if she was casted. I mean, TONS of people have said that she should be Ariel in a live-action remake (Mainly due to her great voice and that she used to have bright red hair like Ariel) much like how just as many people wanted Emma Watson to play Belle before she was casted and look how that turned out. Emma's success playing Belle has made that role just as iconic as her role as Hermione and she received international praise from critics. I guess Ariana wouldn't be a bad choice for Ariel because she is beautiful, she has an amazing voice, looks good wish bright red hair, and is a decent actress. Unfortunately, her acting is only just that, decent, not great. She'd need to improve her acting from decent to amazing to be able to capture the essence of Ariel, especially when she can't talk and her character is HIGHLY dependent on her expressions and reactions. So I didn't vote, which I can do because it's my poll, because I'd be mixed on the idea (Like I am of a live-action remake of The Little Mermaid) but I do have a feeling they're going to go with Ariana as Ariel because she would help bring in an audience like Emma Watson.
To be fair, I haven't seen her act since Victorious, so maybe she's improved, but her acting skills were very poor in that. Also I don't think she looks anything like Ariel, which isn't the highest priority to me when it comes to a live action remake, but I do think there should be at least some resemblance between animated & live action counterparts.
No. And it's not because I don't like her. It's because I really don't want someone playing Ariel who "doesn't fit" the role.
But I honestly feel bad for Ariana right now, because of how negative people are being in the wake of the bombing. Ariana didn't kill those people. Her concert tour wasn't the "flaw." Some social media in Britain is acting like Ariana had control over the terrorist's actions. As if.
After thinking about it, I do think she'd be right for the part. I don't give a crap if she looks like Ariel and she really resembles her enough, which A LOT of people have said off Fanpop and even back in the ancient days of Fanpop. She's gorgeous, she's had bright red hair before and looked amazing with it (I prefer it over her natural hair color), she has an amazing voice, and I think she can pull off the acting when Ariel can't talk because of her role on Victorious. Her character Cat from Victorious was an exaggerated, bubbly, and goofy. Thankfully, with Ariel she wouldn't have to be an idiot with that speaking voice she had as Cat. Ariel needs an actress that can be expressive when she can't talk to help carry the movie in an almost childish and naive way, which she's had experience in. Plus, before she was a pop star, she had experience on Broadway as an actress and singer. Maybe this could get her to go back to singing in the style of her Broadway roots like in this video.
