Passivity isn't inherently hurtful, but meanness is. (Not that I dislike Merida.)

In my opinion, I’d rather someone be kind than mean, but I’d rather someone be brave than passive.
The “have courage and be kind’ bit, comes to mind.

If possible, like MissCinico said, courage and kindness from the Cinderella remake will usually win me over---
and the protagonist should not keep whining about their circumstances and blaming others.

I'm probably not going to like passivity so much. And I hate characters who are mean. Those traits are human, certainly, but VERY unprincessy to me.

By far! I find willfulness and ambition overrated traits. They are good traits but not awesome enough to outweigh the lack of kindness. Just my opinion.

I agree with Adelital and MissCinco. I don't like passivity. Rather I like bravery and ambition. But even passive characters can win over me for their kindness yet I dislike some really courageous dps cuz they are mean. And if they are, it stops appearing as bravery to me. I rather think of it as self-will and stuff

Guess it depends exactly what the question is asking. I would much rather watch a movie about an active but mean character because I would find it more interesting. But if we're talking about which I would like more in real life/be friends with, I'd pick kind but passive.

It really depends on the individual character, but I feel like this would at least be more interesting in the context of a movie. Passivity can be boring.
