Disney Princess With Raya coming I think Disney is making too many Princesses lately, and it's starting to feel like they're just products for little girls, instead of iconic characters

Like since 2009, we have had 7 Movie Princesses (Tiana, Rapunzel, Merida, Anna, Elsa, Moana and now Raya coming), 1 from Disney Channel (Elena), and Sofia (a kid princess). I don't mind so much the TV ones, but I think they are making a lot of Princess movies (including Ralph Breaks the Internet), cause we all know how well do Princesses do in merch sells.

It has always been a great brand, and I know they want money, but at least they made it feel like it was a really exclusive club, where only the most popular girls could walk in. They even put some girls out of the brand like Esmeralda. And now I feel like they're treating the brand just like, lets make another girl so we can make money. And they feel like I AM A YOUNG INDEPENDENT GIRL, so people be like, wow these princesses are grea, even though they are pretty empty personality wise

It can feel like Disney is just churning out films for the purpose of making princesses to add to the lineup than because they actually want to make quality and family friendly movies. That's been the case since 2009 when they created TPATF solely for the purpose of adding a Black princess to the line and there's a reason that film underperformed because the public could tell there was no actual heart behind the film, just $$$. At least in the 90s, while money was certainly still the main goal, there was an attempt to pair that up with making art. Now all the recent Disney films feel like cash-grabs to see whatever sells most merchandise. Disney has realized that films like Wreck-It Ralph, Big Hero 6, and Zootopia either don't do as well at the box office or they don't sell enough merchandise to warrant a legacy, so they're sticking with films like Moana and Raya and inducting those heroines into the franchise whether they actually fit or not.

Yes, because they are adding all these new princesses but have neglected a Latina princess. Instead they gave us Taco Bell princess with Elena and thought that would satisfy an entire continent.

I know what you mean and I'm fully agreeing with you. Also, the fact that the princess is a little girl in the beginning of her movie, so Disney can sell little girl toys as well. (Tiana, Rapunzel, Merida, Anna, Elsa, Moana and now Raya as well. It's all marketing tools. When I saw the trailer for Raya, I was NOT impressed. At. All. :o I miss the time where characters don't have to be either super strong, indepentent, smart, wacky, funny, or crazy. Characters like Cinderella or Aladdin. Todays characters is so smug and smart, it's too much.
