I think Ariel was verrrry very lucky that things turned out the way they did. That was an extremely risky bargain she made. I guess I feel it was kind of stupid since I don't believe in love at first sight.

Talk about luck, Snow White didn't make a single decision in the entire movie except to clean up the cottage.

I always thought Aurora was rather smart, I always thought of the pricking her finger on the spinning wheel as a trance/ fufiling her destiny. Not anything brains could change..
Anyway, Ariel and Snow White were rather naive throughout their movies (not saying that is why I consider them to be slow) and seemed to lack common sense. I say Ariel though overall.

I was going to pick Snow White, but I think queenbee13 made an excellent point. Snow White only endangered herself, Ariel endangered her kingdom. She made more mistakes, and more costly mistakes than Snow White. I think that the smartest princesses are Pocahontas, Jasmine, and Belle.

And regarding Ariel, I think her actions are mostly not out of a lack of any intelligence, but mostly lacking common sense. (Even the filmmakers acknowledge it on the commentary!) And then there's Belle...she's very smart, yes, but at the same time, she can do some really, really stupid shit, like going into the West Wing, running off into a pack of wolves (although TBF, that was kind of Beast's fault for losing his shit over the aforementioned West Wing incident), nearly getting the Beast murdered (although to be fair, (a) she was trying to save her father from getting locked in the asylum, as well as avoiding marrying Gaston *, and (b) I doubt she really expected Gaston to go full-fledged psycho on Beast's ass). It doesn't really mean that Belle's dumb, but she can kind of mess things up by accident via good intentions (as ENCHANTED CHRISTMAS sort of showed -- although to be fair, I think most of it was Forte's fault, as well as Beast being gullible/assholian as hell). Honestly, I don't think any of the princesses are stupid, really -- I think their good intentions can just overwhelm their common sense.

Ariel was the dumbest one out of all. She put her whole entire species in danger for a guy. She had a great life with her family and friends yet she still wasn't happy. She made a risky deal with a sea witch and when her plan blew up in her face, her daddy rescues her and she gets a happily ever after with no consequence at all. And don't get me started on her job as a mother. She lies to her daughter for 12 years. Leaving her with unanswered questions, thinking that everything is going to be peachy if she stays out of the water.

Snow is just innocent and sheltered. As far as I know, children and teens weren't warned about "stranger danger" in the 1500s. She didn't know the house belonged to seven old men, she out and out says she thought orphaned children lived there. Yes, Grimhilde looked freaky as the hag, but for all Snow knew, she couldn't help her appearance. Then she saw birds attacking her for apparently no reason, after which Grimhilde pretended to have a heart attack. The dwarves did warn her about letting anyone in the house, but I imagine Snow thought this was an important exception. What she should've thought about is why someone would be selling apples in the middle of nowhere! But otherwise, like I said, sheltered and innocent.

Surprised and confused so many people chose Ariel. Curiosity is the first sign of high intelligence. She was open-minded and wanted to explore new worlds. Why does anyone think she was actually one of the dumbest?

Also Snow White was only 14 so I believe she was more naïve then dumb.

Snow White comes in second. But Ariel met a handsome guy for the first time and saved his life, then she fell in love with him without even knowing him! Then she left her home, family and friends to see a creepy sea witch and gave up her singing voice. Not everyone will do that. Why would she leave the place that she grew up in? Her father, who raised her and her sisters, she left them all for a stranger! Ariel is no where near smart.

I think Ariel is the dumbest because 1. She didn't even know Eric. What if he was like Gaston, good looking but a total jerk. 2. She had THREE DAYS TO MAKE HIM FALL IN LOVE WITH HER OR ELSE SELLING HER SOUL TO URSULA. 3. She had a perfect life anyway. 4. She couldn't speak to him and she didn't write notes down and 5. She endangered the whole ocean doing that. So she is major dumbo no.1

I just don't think any of them are particularly stupid. Sure, many of them make poor decisions and are somewhat naive, but they are pretty smart.

she knew ursula had a sketchy reputation and got involved with her anyway. the movie shows that she's literate but it never occurred to her to simply communicate with eric through writing. she has no obvious problem-solving skills, foresight, wisdom, or cleverness. she's a ditz, sorry.

Am I the only one who noticed Maleficent using a spell on Aurora, who then suddenly stopped crying and acted like a zombie? Because the green glow seemed hard to miss but everyone acts like she touched the spindle for lolz or something.

^ As I recall that scene/// Malificent built up a green glow in the fireplace. Aurora noticed the light spectrum had changed in the room, so she raised her head, got up out of her chair, and went to investigate out of her own curiosity. Once she was close enough to the fireplace, Maleficent's spell kicked in, and Aiurora became a zombie.

Translation: Aurora's curiosity was taken advantage of by Maleficent, just like Ursula took advantage of ariel's curiosity, brokenheartedness, and yearning for legs.

Ariel is not stupid, nor the stupidest by any means.

I think that its more or less ignorance/naiveness though.

I'm also with wavesurf in that Ariel isn't the dumbest. I think she made a mistake but so did the rest of the princesses. I think in the end Ariel kind of makes up for it. I mean you have to be at least some degree of smart to get someone to fall in love with you without even speaking.

@Zanhar: From my perspective you're right. But every princess in the DP lineup shows her ignorance and naivety about something Snow isn't alone. Not at all.
