Connor Dawson and Lilly Cooper meet each other during their first year residency at New York University in the fall of 2003. They immediately hit it off, and begin to date, and for once it feels like everything in the world is perfect, until Lilly receives a phone call that her Aunt has just been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. Unable to catch a flight, Lilly decides to rent a car (even though Connor begs her not to) and head home to Aurora, North Carolina. The next afternoon, Connor decides to fly down and to be with Lilly, but when he arrives to the small town, he quickly discovers that Lilly had been in a horrific car accident, and is in a coma. Has he lost his true love forever?

There's a lot of other twists to the story, but I don't want to reveal them just yet :)
