At the end of the movie, Pocahontas had the choice of going with John Smith or staying. She chose to stay because she said she was needed there. I'm curious to know if you think she really was or not.

Well, in a Native American village, every little person helps. Harvesting and other chores were things that everyone had to do, and it was important. By the end of the film, she's also greatly needed to help with relations between the natives and settlers. I mean, they almost picked up their gins again before they saw that the Powhatans were just bringing food. They don't trust each other fully. Poca could help to ease that tension.

She was harvesting so hard. Just joking, I know she worked. But I think they could do without her easily

firegirl1515: Thats a good point. I never thought of it that way. I was thinking her father did everything.

If they were going to end with that, I wish they had made a bigger deal out of how she was needed. Until John comes along, she runs off all the time to go extreme cliff diving anyway.

This is the one thing that really bugged me. She had literally JUST said that John Smith was the path she chose. And all she did, ALL we ever see her do is jump off cliffs! I always get really annoyed by the end.

@percyandpotter: She never said she chose the path of John Smith. She chose the path of peace.

Well she did say the arrow was pointing to him not to peace.

She wasn't just needed at her villiage, I think she was needed at Jamestown also. THe real Pocahontas was welcomed at Jamestown at first, and did keep some peace.

As others have said above, I really don't see where she was direly needed in her village. Even when she was around, she never did anything of importance, she collected corn like once I think. But Firegirl1515 is right, she could be of use when attempting to communicate with the settlers.

@sumerjoy11: She never say anything of the sort. The arrow points towards the execution, which is where she must go to make peace. She never says where it's pointing or what her path is. It's never specified.

Here's a quote right from the movie. "I was right it was pointing to him." -Pocahontas

I think her dad needed her more than her village.
And I doubt they'd die without her.

*gets pwned*

WELL, THAT DOESN'T MEAN HE'S HER PATH, HE JUST NEEDS TO SAVE HIM TO BRING PEACE.

If he was really was her path, I think she would've followed him.

I think eventually. If Powhatan died, she would have to rule her village next, right?

Ya I wanted he to be with John too but Disney needed to be historically accurate or people would get pissed at them.

I know it was a democratic tribe, but let's face it, because of all that Poca did, she would be voted to be the next ruler in a landslide.

Well she would be an extra helping hand but it's not like they NEEDED her.

They wouldn't fall apart without her.

I agree with firegirl1515. She did bring peace and it was mainly up to her to make sure people don't start a war again, because by the end of the movie she was familiar with both cultures, and she had a realistic view of the relationship between her people and the Englishmen.
