I always assumed that he just never did like them, maybe due to old stories passed down from generation to generation in his family and also because of their lifestyle with fishing and hunting. It was explained pretty well in "Under the Sea" and the series imo.
For some reason, before the third movie, I always assumed Ariel's mother died in childbirth. XD
No. I just thought he was wary of them because they were different. e.g. in Pocahontas: "They're different from us, which means they can't be trusted!" - so yeah I just thought it was because of that really. He just wanted Ariel safe from things they knew hardly anything about, no one knew what their motives were or what they would do if they saw a mermaid.
No. I never imagined how Ariel's mom died or that maybe she was killed by humans. I always thought Triton hated humans because they fish and hunt. Seems reasonable enough to me.
never really thought about it. i was really young when i first saw it and didn't put too much thought into anything about disney movies-- i just enjoyed them :)
One of my theories was that humans had killed someone from Triton´s family but I didn´t think it was Ariel´s mother. Another one was the same as ppgbelle4.
I Don't mean you don't understand at all. But your comment about Triton being cruel to her means you kinda didn't understand. And maybe I have to admit the problem is in my bad language.

Besides, if even so, Ariel would have know about the reason, and then she's not just stupid and irresponsible, but also cruel to Triton's feelings...
