A warm and gentle breeze blew past the bright and sunny ranch. In this ranch stood a large tree and underneath this tree sat the purple haired Pokémon Trainer who went by the name as Paul. With his most recent journey coming to an end, Paul had returned to his brother's ranch in order to relax. As the warm breeze blew past he fell fast asleep.
How many years had it been since he last relaxed like this in this same ranch? He questioned this when he made his return and could only recall the time before he started his quest to become a Pokémon Master. With all his travels and training he never really took the time to relax, and so it felt good to finally relax for once. He needed this relaxation, for his mind was well conflicted. The once 10 year old boy who started his journey long ago was now 22 years old.
"Paul! Hey Paul where are you!"
The voice of a girl's voice soon awoke him from his slumber. Slowly opening one eye his vision was immediately was assaulted by the harsh rays of the bright sun. He raised once of his hands and attempted to cover the sun's rays but in the end this action was useless a s a figure walked up in front of him and covered him with her shadow
"There you are, I was looking all over for you" The blue haired girl named Dawn said with a bright and happy smile as she stared down at Paul
Opening both eyes Paul lazily looked up at the girl with a dull stare "Do you have to be so loud? I was enjoying a nice nap" Paul said in his usual cold way as he closed his eyes once more.
Of course the cold demeanor infuriated her causing her to cross her arms and scoff "hmph I only wanted to see what you were doing, no need to be so moody, if you wanted to be alone you should have just told me" Dawn yelled infuriated.
Despite this little rant Paul merely smirked almost as if he took pleasure in her fits of rage. Once she was done talking Paul merely patted the ground beside him. Taking in the signal, Dawn merely smiled as she sat down on the spot next to him and rested her head on Paul's shoulder.
Over the many years the two had traveled far and wide, though at first they couldn't really stand each other, in that end that changed. They endured many challenges together and eventually came together and began to care for each other. Their relationship was a complicated one, one that involved the two constantly arguing, but in the end they would act as nothing ever happened.
"Our journey has been quite the long one" Paul suddenly said opening his eyes calmly as he broke the silence. "yeah we've been far a wide , seen many wonderful things, and met many new friends" Dawn said with a smile and looked up at Paul "but there still is many things we have yet to see" Dawn said.
"No, there is so much for you to see" Paul said as he suddenly stood up from his spot and took a step forward. "What do you mean Paul?" Dawn said as she stared up at the standing Pokémon trainer. "I'm ending my journey here. To be the best? Hmph such a childish dream" Paul said calmly.
"Why? Why give up? Don't tell me it's because of that match, you were so close to winning, you can't give up because of something like that" Dawn yelled as she suddenly rose to her feet and stared. She was absolutely stunned at what she was hearing. They've traveled so far together. No matter how hard the challenge, no matter how severe the loss, Paul would always stand and continue on his path without a single complaint. It was such determination that led Dawn to try her best.
As their travels weaved on she noticed a trend, as she rose in victory, Paul continued to lose his battles. She continued to win her contests, but during the leagues there would be a person that would best Paul. His most recent loss was at the finals of the Sinnoh league. It was a close match but in the end he lost.
"Its not that" Paul said sounding a bit annoyed. Letting out a sigh Paul suddenly stared up at the bright blue sky "Its time I grew up…I'm giving up my journey to accept Brandon's offer to join the Battle Frontier.
"What?" Dawn silently said as she stared on at Paul
Another sigh escaped Paul as he lowered his head "you….your loud, reckless, and annoying. Sometimes I even question how you achieve your victories" Paul suddenly said coldly
Dawn's eyes widened, such cold words had overcome her greatly. She would retaliate but the words hurt her. She was about to turn and run away but…
"…but your kind, loving, determined…and even though I question your victories I am never surprised by them." Paul suddenly said continuing his sentence. Just hearing those words stopped Dawn in her tracks. "You're the person I want to always be with" Paul said finally turning to face her/
Paul closed his eyes as he reached into the pocket of his signature jacket and pulled out a small box. "What I'm trying to say in…ummm…Here just take it" Paul said immediately handing her the box as he looked away, trying to hide the flustered look on his face.
Rasing an eyebrow curiously, Dawn took the box and opened it up. Inside it was one of the most beautiful wedding rings one could ever get. Caught off guard, Dawn remained in complete shock and silently stared at the ring
"So what will it be?" Paul said remaining too embarrassed to stare at her. Before he knew it the girl immediately rushed forward and grasped him in a tight embrace, tears bursting out of her eyes as she buried her head in his chest "Of course you idiot….Of course I'll marry you" Dawn said in between sniffles. Looking down at the girl Paul softly smiled as he embraced the girl and closed his eyes "Idiot…let's start a new life together" Paul said
Their journey ended, but in the end a new journey also arose for the two as well, the challenges of life. Even know this memory could never escape his mind.
"Gramps? Hey gramps?!"
A sudden voice awoke him from his thoughts and he found himself being shaken by a little blue haired girl that sat beside him
"Grandpa you shouldn't be falling asleep like this! You really should head to bed if you're tired" The girl spoke worried as she stared up at the old man she called her grandfather.
The old man smiled down as he glanced down at his granddaughter and gently placed his hand on top of her head "I'm sorry, I am supposed to be viewing the full moon alongside with you, but here I am sleeping…and dreaming" the old man said as he lazily stared out at the field of grass before the two of them
"was it a good dream?" the young girl curiously asked.
"well to be more precise, it was a more like old memories" the old man said with a calm smile as he stared up at the sky "This ranch used to belong to my brother. It was here, on this very day that my life changed, it was the day I chose to abandon my goals of being the best trainer there ever was" the old man spoke
"what? Why grandpa? You're the best there is, surly you would have made your dream come true if you continued to try" the child said as she stared up at her grandfather with an upset look on his face.
"Reality hit me. As an adult I could not pursue such childish dreams anymore. To be the greatest and most powerful trainer, it was a goal I could not reach in time" The old man said. "I chose to give up my dreams, but I never regret it. I earned something I would never give up no matter what" he spoke as he glanced over at his granddaughter once more with a smile. Upon those words the granddaughter loosened her grip on her grandfather's arm and let go. The pair once again stared up at the starry sky and the beautiful full moon.
A silence filled the area but that silence was soon broke
"I'll be the greatest" the little girl spoke
"what?" the old man said surprised by what she blurted out
"if grandpa cannot be the greatest, if he is too old to do so, then I will do it for him. I will make you proud and become the greatest trainer just for you" she spoke, her determination was unwavering.
A grand surge of emotion overcame the elderly man and he felt a great deal of joy; something he hadn't felt in a long time. A young girl with long blue hair and a cheerful and bubbly personality, the elder knew this girl was named perfectly, the name of light that matched her grandmother well "I know you will, Hikari" the old man spoke as he closed his eyes for the final time. "You've brought an old man the joy he needed. With this I am at peace" he said. Motionless he sat there with a final smile. The dreams he wished he could accomplish, they were now passed on, and with that he could pass on without regrets
In his last moments he saw a vision, a memory of an old time, it was a night just like this, in his youth as a very young boy he sat with his brother
"Say Paul what do you wish to become?" the brother asked
"I want to be the greatest Pokemon Trainer ever"
The dream had changed to besting his brother, it was sad and unfortunate, something he regretted doing when he had the time, but in his last moments Hikari was able to change that and for that he was relieved. Now he could at last join those who departed him. At last he could finally see her once more and be with her forever. This was the last moment of Paul.
How many years had it been since he last relaxed like this in this same ranch?
