Yeah, I suggested u should read two of his book "A Bend In The Road" or "The Choice", for example. His sad ending maybe appeared in "A Walk To Remember", "Notebook", "Message in A Bottle", or "Night In Rodanthe", "The Last Song",... but recently, his books have more happy ending...
Here's the problem because Nicholas sparks is not a strong writer all of his plots are basically interchangeable story starts theres some type of problem you know about right away later you learn of another problem that's been kept secret people fall deep in love in spite of these problems then someone dies. The ages an names, even the personality of the characters change along with the setting but the basis of the stories remain the same unoriginal an predictable.
