Why does it take so long to update my 3ds?

I really want to update my 3ds so I can get the 3d pokedex but it takes so long and eventually it'll say an error occured.What do I do?

Maybe your wi-fi connection have problems, cause mine just updated in 2 minutes. Check the connection, to see if everything's right.
