Richard and Kahlan Question

I thought a Confessor couldn't touch people?

I only recently got into The Legend of the Seeker, so bare with me but from the episodes I've seen, I thought a Confessor wasn't able to touch someone without making the man confessed, or something.
But in the banner, they're touching each other and she's kissing him.
So, have I got the complete wrong idea?

It's very comlicated. when confessors are young and have no control then only by a single touch will they destroy a person. But because Kahlan is much more experienced she is able to control her power and touch someone without confessing them. Unless she goes into the Con Dar (blood rage) and then she is completely out of control.
