I love the both of them. I was devastated when Futurama ended like in 2003 but I was glad that it came back just not too long ago. The show had quite a lot of promise and the humor, although different from The Simpsons, was still brilliant.
The Simpsons took their humor from their personal flaws as well as from pop culture and the media, making us laugh at something instead of isolating someone because of it. Futurama does a lot of the same but since it happens in the future, they had to take humor that is relevant to us and transplant it so that it would not only fit, but also become relevant in the year 3000. Hence, the people from the past in the little jars LOL...
They share similarities in characters too, with Fry as the dumb yet lovable oaf like Homer, Leela who is kinda naggy but yet caring at the same time like Marge, and Bender who is a rebel, just like Bart.
I don't think one show is better than the other, they are both separate shows that have similar nuances as well as humor so they should both be appreciated as such :)
