I am the proud owner of a male and female red-eared slider and I am very offended. Yes they get big but you can somewhat controol it. The male don't get nearly as big as the feamales. My turtles are going to be four years old in November. The male is the smallest. He is 6 inches long. My female is almost 12 inches. Very big. Though my tank they are in is a 40 gallon. In there they won't get as big as they should. We just got a free pond kit from our nieghbore and spent the whole day putting it in. I am fortunate enough to have turtles who enjoy human contact and find it comforting to have the presence of humans around. Like dogs they also have a favorite person.
