Joan Jett & the Blackhearts were famous for 'I Love Rock'n'Roll' and 'Bad Reputation'. The Runaways were famous for 'Cherry Bomb', 'Born To be Bad' <love this song>.
Currently, there's a movie of the Runaways in production. Kristen Stewart is acting as Joan Jett in the movie "The Runaways". Dakota Fanning is also involved in the film. She's acting as Cherie Currie.

The band is actually called 'Joan Jett and the Blackhearts'. The Runaways is just the name of the movie...
She's one of the first female rock stars. She's most famous for being the lead singer of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts until their breakup. She's legendary. I can't wait for the movie to come out :D

She is the guitarist from the late 70's all girl punk group the runaways(born to be bad,blackmail,cherrybomb).
She went on to solo career, and started a record label called blackheart records. later she hired a backup band and released an album under the name joan jett and blackhearts(i love rock n' roll,bad reputation,shout).
also the popular hair metal vixen lita ford (kiss me deadly,close my eyes forever) was the lead singer and lead guitar player for the runaways.
take some time and listen to some 78-85 punk/glam, it changed my life when i was a teen.
