When Vocaloid became more popular, people transferred the tradition. Then there became the belief outside of Japan that you had to have people give you a P name because they love your music, but it's fine if you give yourself one or don't have one.
Some popular producers that don't have P names are ryo, Hachi, Yuyoyuppe, OSTER Project, and more. They're all popular but don't worry about having a P name.
I'm pretty sure some illustrators have these now too....
