Jace had just retrieved Seeker from the ballroom when the first bombs went off. The spheres were but black shadows floating down into the even blacker depths. But when they exploded, the dark was lit up by five pricks of green-yellow fire. The combined force created an audible BAM! in the muted water.
A wide eyes Jace scrambled back, bumping into his Superior. Though the explosives had gone off too far above to do much damage, the threat was clear. The creatures of the depths had taken flight at the sudden disturbance, and now all was still.
Seeker ushered Jace into the ship, attempting at cover. Another pair of figures appeared from the opposite end of the yacht and approached. Halfway across the gap, another round of the spheres closed in from above. Noticing the danger, the pair swam furiously for the cover. The bombs exploded, closer than the time before. The frame of the sunken ship shuddered as the emerald and golden flames ignited, then extinguished in a hail of bubbles.
Ivara was thrown into Blaze and they tumbled onto the deck beside their companions, the girl colliding with Jace. Fearing another strike, the four quickly regained their balance. They all quick off the deck at once. Soon, though, the 2 men were in the lead, Ivara on their heels. The youngest trailed behind. As they swam, 8 more spheres dropped into the water in a wide ring formation.
Without enough time to evade the descending bombs, Seeker and Blaze passed through the band. The moment Ivara cleared the ring, she glanced back at the 4th member of the party.
It took a sweep of the ship to detect Jace. He was struggling near the deck, neither rising nor sinking, as unable to move. Her eyes widened as the explosives sank toward him. She froze as a streak of white flashed past toward the trapped boy below.

He was 3 feet from the deck before he found himself unable to move any higher. A look down identified the cause if his imprisonment. Around Jace’s ankle were the jaws of gold roping. He kicked at the net in effort to free himself. His vision grew faded and a new reality sharpened: flashes of yellow ad green fire through the confusion of a hail of bubbles, a fierce pain in his ankle as the dark waters turned to chaos.
The vision faded just as quickly as it had begun, leaving a ghost of panic behind. Jace looked up to see three figures rising, and a ring of object sinking. The blurs clarified into the round explosives.
With renewed vigor he yanked at the cord trapping him to the doomed ship. The flipper finally jerked off and his foot came free. Jace barely noticed the stinging pain in the cuts ringing his ankle as he swam quickly after the fleeing group. The boy had just passed through the array of mines when a BANG! resonated through the water.
