This film is pretty good, but Mulan is more consistent, and lacks a lot if the issues BatB has
BatB is way better than Mulan! BatB is definitely a classic, one of Disney's finest!
Seeing as Mulan is my favorite movie...
I love Mulan! The characters are very entertaining, many of them go through very good development, and in some cases, original development (how many times has Disney done a "bad" hero sidekick?) The plot is really well-done, the entire movie is very tightly-plotted, there is very little unnecessary time in the movie, and what unnecessary scenes there are are very well done (the bathing scene.) (Most of) the humor is very organic and meshes well with the plot, such as when all the men in the army are trying to out-man each other or when gender issues are handled, especially when very quickly and lightly (ex. Mulan extending her hand to Ling like she expects him to kiss it.) Mulan's environment is very well constructed, all of the songs work to build on it, even if they aren't masterpieces (even though I personally prefer the Mulan soundtrack.) There are very few flaws in the movie, story-wise. I also really like the way men are handled. As opposed to Brave, where they are all oafs, there are some genuinely respectable men in Mulan (Fa Zhou, Shang, the emperor.) It makes Mulan's struggle and success all that more meaningful and compelling. But ultimately, this movie never fails to completely engage and absorb me. Despite all the issues that are in this movie, in my eyes, it's flawless.
Mulan is more interesting, the characters are well developed, the plot and actions are briskly paced, the soundtrack is epic and it focuses on a much more serious issue about gender equality and the personal matters of the protagonists.
@LupinPrincess, if the film academy is such a better judge than ANY of us are, than you must agree that Brave is better than Wreck-It Ralph, or Shrek is better than Monsters Inc? It is not that it has to be realist, it is just a lot if things are not addressed, so we know that it is just magic, or something like that. It jut leaves is with more questions than answers. I am not talking about art, I am talking about story.
If the issues in BatB were in any other movie, you all would be ripping it to shreds, saying "It has so much plot holes", "Nothing in this movie makes sense". A film could be beautifully animated, by could be a piece if crap story wise (which BatB is not).
