Oscar Isaac to Star in Alfonso Gomez-Rejon Thriller ‘A Foreigner’ 

After flirting with the role late last year,

Oscar Isaac is officially on board to star in the Paramount thriller “A Foreigner.”

“Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” helmer Alfonso Gomez-Rejon will direct the movie from a script by Chris Terrio. Steve Zaillian is producing through his Film Rites banner, along with Steven Rales, Garrett Basch, Mark Roybal and Mark Johnson..

The pic revolves around a murdered Guatemalan man who arranges for videos of his killers to be distributed after his death in order to uproot the corruption that has led to other killings.The story is based on David Grann’s 2011 New Yorker article “A Murder Foretold.”

first reported that Isaac had the offer, but had to sort out his 2016 schedule, which includes shooting the next installment in the “Star Wars” series, before committing. “A Foreigner” is set to film in the fall.

Matt Damon was being courted at one point to make his directorial debut on the long-in-development project.

Isaac is currently filming “Star Wars.” He immediately boards the Alex Garland film “Annihilation,” with Natalie Portman, afterward. Isaac also stars in “X-Men: Apocalypse,” bowing this Memorial Day weekend, as well as the Terry George drama “The Promise,” opening sometime this fall.

The actor is also expected to be in this year’s Emmy race for outstanding lead actor in a miniseries or a movie for HBO’s “Show Me a Hero,” which already earned him a Golden Globe.
