A Wannabe In Over His Head – Person of Interest – Season 4 Episode 6 – “Pretenders”
So after learning more about Harold’s relationship with the machine and knowing that Samaritan is now after it, what are Harold and the team to do? We know we will see a new number come up, but I am more interested in how the team is going to stop Samaritan and will the machine be able to help them, or will Samaritan get to “her” before the team can?
We start with John in another, um…awkward situation, when as suspected, Harold delivers a new number. Shaw is trying to get another job, but something tells me it is all for the cause, the number. The number this week is Walter Dang and he is an insurance broker. It seems he has a co-worker, whose brother, Abel, killed himself recently. Walter may be trying to help find out why Abel killed himself.
Harold’s cover has him sent to Hong Kong, which means Shaw is in charge of technology for this number. John is tailing Walter and he is at the hotel where Abel killed himself and he is checking it out. John notices the guy has a gun as well. This makes the team question if Abel’s death was truly a suicide.
Harold is busy at his conference and meets Beth Bridges, and she does not seem impressed with our Harold. It seems Harold may have met his intellectual match, perhaps?
Shaw and John discover that Abel was meeting a man named Banks Van Hess about a delivery. Hess works at the Port Authority which just happens to be the location that John has now tracked Walter to. Walter, who is pretending to be a cop to gain access to the port, stumbles upon Banks being killed. John steps in to save the day for Walter Dang. I have a feeling that the men who killed Banks are from the Brotherhood and John and the team will have a fresh chance at getting at their leader.
John plays up Walter’s cover as a cop and gets him to help him out by comparing notes. It seems there is a truck missing. That must be the truck the Brotherhood is looking for from the call that the machine intercepted.
Harold is continuing his conversation with Mrs. Bridges. They decide to walk back to their hotel together. Their conversation could not get more geekier, when Mrs. Bridges is mugged on the street. Something tells me the purse that the mugger got away with probably held something important.
Back in the states, Shaw discovers that Abel was smuggling guns through the port with Van Hess. Walter gets picked up by the Brotherhood, but John is able to rescue him. A gunfight ensues and just as John finds himself in a really bad situation, the lovely Shaw saves the day! You go girl!
John and the team have acquired one of the weapons the Brotherhood was trying to get their hands on and it is a doosy. They try to pump Walter, who now knows that John is not just a cop, for more information but he has none to give. They decide to hole him up at the police station for his protection.
Back in Hong Kong we discover that the mugger took Beth’s laptop. She wants to go to the cops but Harold convinces her not to, as the mugger also got away with his passport and this could cause Harold big problems with Samaritan. He tells her he can track down the guy who mugged them.
Shaw does some more digging and finds out that Abel and Hess brought in 100 of those high powered guns. No wonder the Brotherhood wants them back so bad. At the station, Walter gets paid a visit by someone who is not a friend and claims he is from the FBI. Fusco is trying to place the weapon they recovered into evidence when he is hit from behind. John catches the guy trying to take Walter and is able to keep Walter from being taken once again.
John meets with Elias for help. He sees that Elias has one of the weapons and believes Elias is behind the gun shipments. Elias explains that his guy was the one who tried to take Walter from the prescient but the armor was the one who tried to take Walter off the street. Elias explains that the armor was working with Van Hess and Abel to bring the guns in. Abel realized what he was carrying and dumped the truck, which is still missing.
Abel was killed trying to escape the men the armor sent to find out where the truck was. Elias explains that he needs to speak with Walter in order to find out what he knows and figure out where the missing truck is.
In Hong Kong Harold is able to recover him and Beth’s stolen items. It is nice to see Harold involved in some real action. Back in the states John has realized that Elias needs Abel’s phone from Walter. Fusco is ambushed and Walter is taken again, but not before John takes one in the arm trying to save Walter.
Shaw finds the coordinates from Abel’s phone and sends John and Fusco to the location, knowing that Elias’ men will already be there. They show up just as Walter is about to take a bullet. A gun fight ensues when Elias’ men show up with some much needed assistance, but not before Walter takes one in the arm.
Elias now has the armor and wants to know who was behind trying to bring those guns into his city. It seems Elias was not behind bringing in the guns he was trying to find out who was bringing the guns in. The armor is less than helpful but Elias knows who it is.
John gets Walter back situated at his work place. He brings up the vigilante he had heard about and how that man disappeared a few weeks ago and crime rates went back up. He created his Detective Forge cover because he was inspired by that man, but now he realizes that he is not really gone. You got that right Walter!
Elias meets with Dominic and I realize I am right it was the Brotherhood who was trying to get the guns in. It seems we may have a stand-off between the mighty Elias and the Brotherhood. This may work to the team’s advantage.
In Hong Kong, Harold and Beth are parting ways, but it looks like Harold may have made a new friend. After Beth leaves we get a huge “wow” moment when we see that Harold set up the mugging to get something inserted onto Beth’s laptop. It seems Beth is connecting with Samaritan. This should mean that Harold will be able to get a glimpse into what Samaritan may be up to and perhaps find a way to defeat it. I think Harold may be the superhero this episode!
Tune in next week to find out what Harold’s plan may be and what he is up to!
